Gilbane Building Company Selects Communication via Design as Green Design Partner

Communication via Design (CviaD) and Gilbane Building Company (Gilbane) are proud to announce the launch of Gilbane’s new corporate proposal system. Gilbane approached Communication via Design with the goal of designing a new proposal system that would decrease their carbon footprint. Communication via Design, was an active partner and helped Gilbane achieve its environmental stewardship goals by guiding them through the various sustainable material and printing choices available to them. As in most cases, the choice of certified sustainable papers, products and printing didn’t increase printing costs or timing.

This proposal was constructed using the following environmentally responsible materials.

  • Content Pages: 30% post-consumer waste, purchased from an FSC-certified mill
  • Divider Tabs: 100% post-consumer waste, FSC-certified paper
  • Binder: 100% recycled chipboard
  • Binder Wrap: FSC-certified paper, contains recycled content
  • Printing: Printed with soy-based inks at an FSC-certified printing facility

Gilbane has long been committed to environmental responsibility by emphasizing sustainable practices in every project – whether addressing requirements for LEED® certification or employing green practices for cost savings throughout their own business operations. Thomas F. Gilbane, Jr., company chairman and CEO, believes that Gilbane’s commitment to environmental responsibility is based on one simple principle: “It’s the right thing to do. Sustainable practices make sense for the communities where we live and work, and the benefits will be felt for generations to come.” 03

Gilbane is one of the country’s largest private construction companies with annual revenues of more than $3.5 billion and 28 offices across the United States. Gilbane constructs a diverse cross section of facilities within the Higher Education, K-12, Mission Critical, Healthcare, Criminal Justice, Transportation, Convention/Cultural, Life Sciences, Federal/Public, Sports and Recreation, and Corporate markets.
