Vision >

NGE is a Boston-based non-profit that operates in the six states of New England, and is dedicated to making communities greener, healthier, and more economically vital through the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects. NGE wanted to improve their donor experience by providing them the choice of funding one of several specific green projects in the region.

Action >

Communication via Design introduced a new interface design and added functionality to connect environmentally-concerned citizens with a range of green projects. Visitors are encouraged to donate after reading about new NGE initiatives and successful, fully-funded projects. They can now search or page through project listings, make a project-specific donation and submit a project-specific comment. Fundraising totals per project are updated in live time, providing the donor immediate gratification through a real time experience.

Requirements

• Provide NGE the tools to create robust donation listings of local solar, wind, biomass and geothermal energy projects
• Create a new interface design and widgets to improve the donor experience
• Easily update content by administrative staff
• Allow for future site additions

Solutions

• Rotating banners on the homepage tell the success stories of fully-funded projects
• “Learn More” content type allows NGE to profile new initiatives on the homepage
• “Fund a Project” widget features select projects on the homepage
• Projects page lists all projects for donor to page through (10 projects per page)
• Donors can sort projects by lifetime energy cost savings, C02 savings and Amount left to fund; donors can also filter by project technology: lighting, water, weatherization, etc.
• Graphic “thermometer” (part of “Fund a Project” widget) automatically updates to display the state of funding vs. the total project cost and automatically displays a ‘fully funded’ state when project is fully funded
• Administrator is able to add external funding amounts per project
• Donors are able to provide project-specific comments after donation
• Administrator can review and approve comments from donors prior to comments appearing on project-specific pages
